Christmas Market in Lille

For more than a month, the streets, squares and facades of Lille, the Northern Capital, are light up with the coming of Christmas: lightening, crowns of garlands, Christmas market, merry-go-round and the Big Wheel ( November 21st to January) which turns on the Grand Place majestically with the sound of Christmas songs. Christmas time is one of the best moments to visit Lille !

Christmas market - place Rihour

The inviting smell of hot roasted chestnuts, chocolate and candle wax emanates from the place Rihour. 78 wooden huts open from 11am to 8pm seven days a week (plus 2 special evenings on December 3rd and 10th until 10pm) are proposing products from the local region and from all accross France to the visitors. Craftsmen and traders offer ideas of gifts such as Northern specialities (waffles, gingerbread) or toys and jewellery. Taste the mulled wine, enjoy the magic and convivial atmosphere of Lille, more friendly again on that occasion.

Shopping in the illuminated streets

In the old town, the famous names of haute couture, fashion and decoration are waiting for you in superb Flemish houses. In the pedestrians streets, shoppers will find-up to-the minute fashionable clothes and the latest compact disc of their favourite singer. Euralille is a vast shopping centre containing more than 140 boutiques and a hypermarket on two floors. In Gambetta street, you will find many discount shops and cut-price stores. Most of the shops are open on Sundays before. Do not forget the famous Wazemmes marke and its hammam !
