German Christmas Market

X-mas 2005 - German Christmas Market Manchester City Council's Festive Manchester 2005 will transform the city centre into a winter-wonderland. In addition to the now famous European Markets, the world's largest mobile observation wheel; provided by World Tourist Attractions Ltd, will be placed in Exchange Square, offering fantastic views across Manchester and beyond. The wheel will lift Manchester's festive season to sparkling new heights, giving people a chance to take in some of the City's most striking architecture, from a refreshingly different perspective!

The Wheel of Manchester was originally located in Paris, where its 51,000 bulbs lit up the skyline near to the Champs-Elysee for two years. Now Manchester is proud to announce that this world-famous attraction will adorn the city right through the Festive period until the end of February 2005.

The rest of Manchester City Centre will positively glow this Christmas. The trees in Albert Square, dripping with fairy lights against the dramatic Gothic Town Hall, provide a magnificent backdrop to the delightful European Christmas Markets, which are now so successfully established that the festive season wouldn't be the same without them.

St Ann's Square will be transformed into an enchanting Bavarian village, as the German market traders gather with their hand-crafted wooden toys, traditional Christmas decorations, crystal lamps, hot roast chestnuts and mulled wine bar.

And just to add the icing on the cake, each weekend a host of British craft stalls will swell the ranks of the Europeans in Albert Square adding a truly unique element to the Manchester Christmas Markets. Silversmiths, wood-turners, blacksmiths, embroiderers, painters and potters are just a few of the many crafts represented at the craft markets that offer you the opportunity to buy that extra special Christmas gift, guaranteed to surprise and delight your friends and relatives.

Manchester was the first to bring a traditional German Christmas market to the UK and combined with the European and Craft markets presents the largest festive market place in the country.

The popularity of the European Markets is such that visitors now travel from all over the region and further afield, to sample the delights of Manchester's festivities. And it's not surprising, with the city's wealth of hotels, a roll call of top designer stores and high street favourites, a host of top international attractions and now the world's biggest observation wheel, there's every reason to visit Festive Manchester this Christmas!
